WHEREAS, due to the City of Atlanta's ("City") financial constraints in Fiscal Year
2009 the City's Municipal Court went to a four-day work week; and
WHEREAS, the City's improved financial condition and the demands of the general
public now require the Municipal Court to operate at least five days per week; and
WHEREAS, the Municipal Court hours of operation had previously been set by the
Chief Judge pursuant to Charter Subpart A, Article 4, Courts, Section 4-105(b); and
WHEREAS, the City desires to add Section 62-48 to Part II, Chapter 62 Courts, Article
II Municipal Court, Division 1 of the City of Atlanta Code of Ordinances setting forth
hours of operation for the Municipal Court.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF ATLANTA, GEORGIA, as follows:
SECTION 1: That Section 62-48 titled Hours of Operation is hereby added to Part II,
Chapter 62 Courts, Article II Municipal Court, Division 1 of the City of Atlanta Code of
Ordinances which shall read as follows:
Section 62-48. Hours of operation.
Standard operating hours of the Municipal Court are weekdays from 8:oo
a.m. to 5:30 pm. Each Municipal Court Judge must preside over a regularly
scheduled Municipal Court calendar at least 5 days each week.
SECTION 2: This Ordinance shall take effect 90 days from the date of approval.
SECTION 3: All ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby waived for purposes of this
Ordinance only, and only to the extent of said conflict.
