WHEREAS, Cities such as Milwaukee (Summerfest), Chicago (the Taste of Chicago), and Austin (Austin Urban Music Festival) host annual music festivals to highlight local artists and businesses, and to also provide entertainment to concert patrons from nationally renowned artists; and
WHEREAS, urban music festivals nationwide have been found to be a driver of economic development to local businesses, increase tourism, and promote a sense of civic pride for local residents and their communities; and
WHEREAS, it is in the best interest of the City to create a committee to conduct a feasibility study to determine the benefits of the City of Atlanta hosting an annual music festival.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ATLANTA, that the Atlanta Music Festival Committee consisting of Thirteen (13) members is hereby established.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Atlanta Music Festival Committee shall include the following members:
• One (1) Member shall be appointed by the Mayor
• One (1) Member shall be appointed by the Council President
• One (1) member shall be appointed by the District 1, 2, 3, 4, and Post 1 At-Large
Councilmembers
• One (1) member shall be appointed by the District 5, 6, 7, 8, and Post 2 At-Large
Councilmembers
• One (1) member shall be appointed by the District 9, 10, 11, 12, and Post 3 At-Large
Councilmembers
• One (1) Member shall be appointed by the Governor's Office of Film and Entertainment
• One (1) Member shall be appointed by the Georgia Convention and Visitors Bureau
• One (1) Member shall be appointed by the Atlanta Convention and Tourists Bureau
• One (1) Member shall be appointed by the American Society of Composers, Authors and
Publishers (ASCAP)
• One (1) Member shall be appointed by Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI)
• The Commissioner ofParks &Recreation, or her designee
• The Executive Director of the Office of Cultural Affairs, or her designee
• The Director of the Office of Entertainment, or his designee
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Post 1 At-Large Councilmember and the appointment by the Mayor shall serve as Co-Chairs of the Committee.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that each member shall serve a term of Two (2) years, and may continue to serve until a successor is appointed.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Office of Municipal Clerk is hereby directed to notify the above individuals and organizations to request that the names of their nominees be submitted to the Office of Municipal Clerk.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Atlanta Music Festival Committee shall meet at least Four (4) times annually, and all meetings shall be open to the public.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Committee shall sunset Two (2) years from the date of its first meeting.
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED, that all resolutions and parts of resolutions in conflict are hereby rescinded.
