A RESOLUTION BY COUNCILMEMBER KEISHA LANCE BOTTOMS REQUESTING THE ATLANTA BELTLINE, INC. TO INSTALL
WATER FACILITIES ALONG ALL SEGMENTS OF THE ATLANTA BELTLINE;
AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES.

(Held 9/27/16 by the Committee for additional information and further discussion)

WHEREAS, Atlanta BeltLine, Inc. was formed in 2006 by Inwest Atlanta (formerly the Atlanta Development Authority) for the purpose of managing the implementation of the Atlanta BeltLine program; and

WHEREAS, working with partners, including City of Atlanta departn1ents, its functions include specifically defining the Atlanta BeltLine plan; leading efforts to secure federal, state and local funding; spearheading all design and engineering; constructing trails, parks, transit, streetscapes, affordable housing, and art; continuing the community engagement process; managing all vendors and suppliers; and serving as the overall project management o11ice to execute the

Atlanta BeltLine program; and

WHEREAS, with the official opening of the West End Trail in 2008, the Eastside Trail in 2012, and the Southwest and Northside Spur Trail in 2013 and 2015 respectively, thousands of residents and visitors alike have used segments of the BeltLine, which has greatly contributed to the international popularity of the Project; and

WHEREAS, among the many accomplishments the BeltLine has received as one of the most ambitious urban redevelopment projects in the country, the BeltLine has been recognized by the International Real Estate Federation with its Prix d'Excellence Award and the International Economic Development Council's Silver Award for Excellence in Economic Development; and

WHEREAS, citizens have expressed concerns that there is not ample access to drinking water throughout the trail for people and their pets; and

WHEREAS, to make the BeltLine as safe and enjoyable for the thousands users, it is in the best

interest that water facilities be installed along all segments of the BeltLine.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ATLANTA, GEORGIA, that Atlanta BeltLine, Inc. is hereby requested to install water facilities along the Eastside, West End, and Southwest BeltLine Connector Trails to be used by patrons of the BeltLine, including pets.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that water facilities be included in the design of the Eastside Trail Extension, Northwest and Southeast Trails.

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED, that Atlanta BeltLine, Inc. provide a report that includes the installation of water facilities along the all trails of the BeltLine as part of its final quarterly report to the Community Development/Human Resources Committee.
