A RESOLUTION BY COUNCILMEMBER NATALYN M. ARCHIBONG AS AMENDED BY THE ATLANTA CITY COUNCIL AUTHORIZING PARK PRIDE, INC. TO ACCEPT A DONATION ON BEHALF OF THE CITY OF ATLANTA FROM THE ATLANTA HAWKS FOUNDATION, INC. IN THE AMOUNT OF FIFTY-ONE THOUSAND EIGHT HUNDRED SIXTY-FOUR DOLLARS AND FORTY CENTS ($51,864.40) FOR THE PURPOSE OF RENOVATING TWO OUTDOOR BASKETBALL COURTS AT SELENA S. BUTLER PARK; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES.

WHEREAS, the City of Atlanta ("City") owns numerous parks and desires to encourage the support and involvement of surrounding communities to develop, enhance and maintain its parks; and

 

WHEREAS, the City has an increased need to receive private support and funding for programs, operations, development and improvements in its parks; and

 

WHEREAS, Park Pride Atlanta, Inc. ("Park Pride") is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to providing support, administration, planning, design and construction services for City parks and the Department of Parks and Recreation ("DPR"); and

 

WHEREAS, pursuant to Resolution 11-R-1471, adopted by the Atlanta City Council on October

17, 2011, and approved per City Charter Section 2-403 on October 26, 2011, the City entered into a contractual agreement with Park Pride to provide volunteer support, fundraising, administration, planning and construction management services for City parks and park related projects ("Agreement"); and

 

WHEREAS, pursuant to Resolution 17-R-3489, adopted by the Atlanta City Council on April

17, 2017 and approved per City Charter Section 2-403 on April 26, 2017, the City exercised the two-year renewal option in the Agreement; and

 

WHEREAS, the Atlanta Hawks Foundation, Inc. ("Hawks Foundation") established the Hawks Court Renovation Program ("Program") which provides funding for the construction and/or renovation of basketball courts in underprivileged  neighborhoods throughout  metropolitan Atlanta, Georgia and surrounding areas; and

 

WHEREAS, Park Pride, on behalf of the City, requested funding from the Program to renovate two full-size outdoor basketball courts at the City's Selena S. Butler Park with renovations to include the installation of two (2) commercial goal systems, court resurfacing, aluminum edging, anchor courts, backboards containing the Atlanta Hawks logos and other improvements ("Renovations"); and

 

WHEREAS, in response to Park Pride's request, the Hawks Foundation desires to donate Fifty­ One Thousand Eight Hundred Sixty-Four Dollars and Forty Cents ("Donation") to the City for Renovations at Selena S. Butler Park; and

 

WHEREAS, once the Renovations are complete the Hawks Foundation will host a community celebration, including a basketball clinic, games and other activities to unveil the new courts ("Dedication"); and

 

WHEREAS, in honor of the Atlanta Hawks' Donation the City desires to install a temporary plaque in honor of the Hawks at Selena S. Butler Park, to be unveiled at the Dedication; and

 

WHEREAS, the City is appreciative of the Hawks Foundation and Park Pride's contributions.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ATLANTA, GEORGIA, that Park Pride is authorized to accept the Donation on behalf of the City for the basketball court Renovations at Selena S. Butler Park.

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Mayor, on behalf of the City, is authorized to enter into any necessary agreements in connection with the Renovations.

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that Park Pride is authorized to pay for the basketball court

Renovations at Selena S. Butler Park with the Donation.

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City is authorized to install the Atlanta Hawks' logos on the renovated basketball courts at Selena S. Butler Park.

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City’s acceptance of the Donation is affirmed.

 

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED, that the City is authorized to install a temporary plaque of recognition at Selena S. Butler Park and the plaque may include the Atlanta Hawks' logo.
