AN ORDINANCE BY COUNCILMEMBER JENNIFER N. IDE
AUTHORIZING A DONATION, IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS AND ZERO CENTS ($1,000.00), FROM THE DISTRICT 6 CARRY FORWARD ACCOUNT TO INTOWN COLLABORATIVE MINISTRIES, INC.; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES.

Body

WHEREAS, Intown Collaborative Ministries is a 501(c)(3) organization whose mission is to prevent and reverse homelessness and hunger in Intown Atlanta by building a healthy community through caring relationships and transformed lives; and

 

WHEREAS, Intown Collaborative Ministries serves more than 1,700 men, women, and children in the community - specifically Virginia Highlands and Little Five Points - each year through four vital programs targeted towards homelessness, low income, food insecurity and more; and

 

WHEREAS, their food pantry program serves 80-100 men, women, and children each Saturday of the year. Guests make over 6,400 visits to the Pantry each year, receiving 69,000 pounds of food - enough food for 58,000 meals. Supports of the pantry donate half of the food that is served; and

 

WHEREAS, Intown operates two food co-ops at two different low-income housing units - the Briarcliff Summit Apartments and the William Booth Towers, both on Ponce de Leon Avenue; and

 

WHEREAS, Intown’s Clothing Closet offers interview, work, and casual clothing. Their boutique-like urban clothing “shop” is the only option for low-income men and women in the neighborhood who cannot afford professional clothing; and

 

WHEREAS, donations to Intown cover the following costs:

·              $25 - Delivery costs for 1,000 pounds of food for Food Pantry

·              $50 - Snack Packs for 25 individuals experiencing homelessness

·              $100 - Holiday meals for 20 families

·              $500 - Fresh produce for 100 Food Pantry guests for 1 month

 

WHEREAS, it is the desire of the District 6 Councilmember to contribute One Thousand Dollars and Zero Cents ($1,000.00) to support the initiatives of Intown Collaborative Ministries, Inc.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ATLANTA GEORGIA, to be read as follows:

 

SECTION 1: That the Chief Financial Officer is authorized to amend the FY 2019 General Fund Budget to remit a donation in an amount not to exceed One Thousand Dollars and Zero Cents ($1,000.00) to Intown Collaborative Ministries, Inc.

 

SECTION 2: That all payments shall be charged to and made from the following account: 1001 (General Fund) 030206 (CCN Council District 6) 5790001 (Contingency Fund - Unrestricted) 1110000 (Governing Body) Councilmember Jennifer N. Ide.

 

SECTION 3: That all ordinances and parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby repealed for purposes of this ordinance only and only to the extent of the conflict.
