A RESOLUTION BY COUNCILMEMBER MICHAEL JULIAN BOND AS SUBSTITUTED BY THE ATLANTA CITY COUNCIL TO AUTHORIZE THE MAYOR OR HER DESIGNEE TO DONATE FUNDS, IN THE AMOUNT OF ONE HUNDRED EIGHTY THOUSAND DOLLARS AND ZERO CENTS ($180,000.00), TO HOSEA FEED THE HUNGRY TO ASSIST WITH THE COMPLETION OF BUILDING RENOVATIONS; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES.

WHEREAS, the City of Atlanta ("City") is home to one of the most significant, impactful

movements in the fight against poverty, hunger, and homelessness in the United States and around the globe; and

 

WHEREAS, founded by legendary civil rights, Hosea Williams, Hosea Feed the Hungry ("HFTH") continues to provide vital services to those in need as it has done for over 40 years in the City, nationally, and abroad; and

 

WHEREAS, with minimal staff, a host of volunteers and contributors, HFTH has served millions of residents in the City and surrounding communities; and

 

WHEREAS, in addition to the organization signature holiday feeding and service projects that feed tens of thousands of adults, children, and families annually, HFTH provides rent and utility assistance, food stamps, job training, and placement, health screenings, and our daily food pantry; and

 

WHEREAS, for the first time, HFTH has purchased a headquarters location that will allow the organization to centralize, enhance, and expand services; and

 

WHEREAS, HFTH has had challenging restraints which cause the organization to encounter a significant road block which threatens the ability of the continuation of providing services to Atlanta residents; and

 

WHEREAS, although the HFTH has raised to $1.7M to renovate the Cleveland Avenue facility but is in need of additional capital funding to complete its renovations of the facility; and

 

WHEREAS, Hosea Feed the Hungry is requesting financial consideration from the City in an amount of One Hundred Eighty Thousand Dollars and Zero Cents ($180,000.00) to continue to serve Atlanta most in need for the next 40 years.

 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED  BY THE  COUNCIL  OF THE CITY OF ATLANTA, GEORGIA, that the Mayor and the City Council will work collaboratively to identify funding to support the Hosea Williams Feed the Hungry and Homeless, Inc.

 

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED, that all resolutions or parts of resolutions in conflict with this resolution are hereby waived in this instance only.
