In Honor of
Older Atlantans Month
Whereas, Older Atlantans Month celebrates and honors the many contributions older adults make to our communities; and
Whereas, Older Atlantans Month provides a special month for activities and celebrations which promote positive attitudes toward aging and recognize the active, healthy, and independent lives many older people lead; and
Whereas, Older Atlantans Month encourages the senior members of our communities to enjoy their golden years and stay active. It also promotes a positive attitude about an environment that is socially conducive to active aging; and
Whereas, Atlanta has a growing 65 and over population who enjoy Atlanta’s natural attractions, leisure opportunities, and participate in the city’s growing marketplace; and
Whereas, By capitalizing on their strengths, talents, knowledge, and abilities to mentor children, senior Atlantans contribute immeasurably to the city’s vitality.
Now, Therefore, We, the members of the Atlanta City Council, and on behalf of the citizens of
Atlanta, hereby proclaim May 2016 as Older Atlantans Month in the City of Atlanta.
