AN ORDINANCE TO CORRECT AND CLARIFY CERTAIN REFERENCES WITHIN ORDINANCE
# 14-O-1379 TO NOW AMEND ATLANTA CITY CODE OF ORDINANCES DIVISION 9 YOUTH COMMISSION SECTION 2-2128 GOVERNING BOARD COMPOSITION; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES

Body

WHEREAS, Ordinance 14-O-1379 was adopted by the Atlanta City Council on August 18, 2014; and

 

WHEREAS, it has since been determined that clarification and correction is needed regarding Ordinance 14-O-1379; and

 

WHEREAS Ordinance 14-O-1379 incorrectly referenced City Code Section 2-5052 taken from the City’s 1977  Code of Ordinances; and

 

WHEREAS Ordinance 14-O-1379 should have referenced Atlanta City Code of Ordinances Division 9 Youth Commission Section 2-2128 taken from the1995 Code of Ordinances as is currently in use; and 

 

WHEREAS Ordinance 14-O-1379 requires 1) clarification regarding the Mayor’s appointments, 2) clarification regarding the City Council related appointments, 3) correction to name the "Atlanta Board of Education" instead of the "Atlanta Public Schools", and 4) correction to delete "the Atlanta Project" as an appointing authority as it is no longer an active organization in the City.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED that the Atlanta City Code of Ordinances Division 9 Youth Commission Section 2-2128 Governing Board Composition, shall read as follows: 

 

The Governing Board of the Atlanta Youth Commission shall be composed of residents of the City of Atlanta with a total membership not to exceed fifteen (15) members to serve two-year terms each.  The members shall be selected as follows:

 

Six (6) members appointed as follows by the Mayor:

·              The Chief of Police or his/her designee;

·              The Commissioner of the Department of Parks & Recreation or his/her designee;

·              Two youth members nominated by the Superintendent of the Atlanta Public Schools, and

·              Two laypersons.

 

One (1) member appointed by the President of the Atlanta City Council.

 

Six (6) members with each appointed by the following Atlanta City Council groupings:

·              Council Post 1 At-Large and Districts1 and 2

·              Council Post 1 At-Large and Districts 3 and 4

·              Council Post 2 At-Large and Districts 5 and 6

·              Council Post 2 At-Large and Districts 7 and 8

·              Council Post 3 At-Large and Districts 9 and 10

·              Council Post 3 At-Large and Districts 11 and 12

 

Two (2) members appointed by the Atlanta Board of Education. 

 

BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED that all ordinances and code sections or parts of ordinances and code sections in conflict herewith are hereby waived to the extent of any such conflict.
