A RESOLUTION BY COUNCILMEMBER MICHAEL JULIAN BOND AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR'S OFFICE OF SPECIAL EVENTS
WORK WITH THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS TO REQUIRE
ORGANIZERS OF CLASS "A' OUTDOOR FESTIVALS HAVE A DESIGNATED PICK
UP AREA FOR TAXIS; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES.

Body

WHEREAS, the City of Atlanta issues permits for several large events annually that attract thousands of attendees each year; and

 

WHEREAS, the largest events are those permitted as Class "A" outdoor festivals (as defined in the City of Atlanta Code of Ordinances, Section 142-59(a)(l)), which typically draw crowds of over 50,000 attendees; and

 

WHEREAS, the authority and responsibility to regulate activities within the public right-of-way is assigned to the Commissioner of the Department of Public Works (as defined in the City of Atlanta Code of Ordinances, Section 138-3); and

 

WHEREAS, residents have requested organizers of Class "A" Outdoor Festivals have a designated pick up area for taxis on a street adjacent to the festival.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ATLANTA, GEORGIA, that the Mayor's Office of Special Events work with the Department of Public Works to require organizers of Class "A" Outdoor Festivals to have a designated pick up area for taxis on a street adjacent to the festival.

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that upon review of the organizer's permit request, the Department of Public Works will approve a designated pick up area in the right-of-way on a street adjacent to the festival.

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Mayor's Office of Special Events require the organizer to advertise and/or market this designated pick up area for their event.

 

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED, that all resolutions and parts of resolutions in conflict with the terms of this resolution are hereby repealed only to the extent of conflict.
