AN ORDINANCE BY COUNCILMEMBERS MICHAEL JULIAN BOND, CLETA WINSLOW, JOYCE SHEPERD, ANDRE DICKENS, HOWARD SHOOK, C. T. MARTIN AND KEISHA LANCE BOTTOMS AUTHORIZING A DONATION IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS AND ZERO CENTS ($500.00) FROM THE POST 1 AT-LARGE CARRY FORWARD ACCOUNT TO THE CARRIE STEELE-PITTS HOME; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES.

WHEREAS, the Carrie Steele-Pitts Home ("CSPH") is a private, nonprofit and non-­ discriminatory child caring agency that provides community-based child welfare services, including supportive education, health & wellness programs and 24-hour, state-approved residency for vulnerable youth; and

 

WHEREAS, CSPH cares for children who have been the victim of sexual abuse and violence, children who have been abandoned and/or neglected or due to other circumstances are unable to reside with their natural parents or family; and

 

WHEREAS, CSPH serves adolescents from 12-18 years old and older youth from 18-24 years old at its facility; and

 

WHEREAS, CSPH is located in the Adamsville neighborhood of Southwest Atlanta and sits on a 35-acre wooded campus, which is landscaped with neatly manicured flowerbeds and grassy spaces where children can run and play; and

 

WHEREAS, CSPH is also comprised of five residential cottages where approximately 10 children live with their "house parents," which is a team of compassionate adults who provide

24-hour supervision and care; and

 

WHEREAS, as a United Way agency, the CSPH receives contributions towards its operational expenses; however, the home is primarily funded through private and corporate donors and sponsors; and

 

WHERAS, it is the desire of the Post 1 At-Large Councilmember to donate Five Hundred Dollars and Zero Cents to help the Carrie Steele-Pitts Home continue its mission of maintaining a family environment that fosters the physical, educational, social-economic, and spiritual development of each of the child the home serves.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ATLANTA GEORGIA, to be read as follows:

 

 

SECTION 1: That the Chief Financial Officer is authorized to remit payment of Five Hundred

Dollars and Zero Cents to the Carrie Steele-Pitts Home (CSPH).

 

SECTION 2: That all payments shall be charged to and made from the following:

SECTION 3: That all ordinances and parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby repealed for purposes of this ordinance only and only to the extent of the conflict.
